Put two complete quotes on the table
Ask each provider for its contract summary and detailed terms. The Malta Communications Authority says you can request the summary simply to compare services, without subscribing. It brings the service, price, duration and termination information into a common format.
Keep a recent bill for your existing plan alongside the new quotes. Record the date and the exact package offered, rather than relying on an old advert or a neighbour’s price. Check which discounts you qualify for and whether a particular payment method is required.
- Introductory monthly price and the number of months it lasts.
- Monthly price after the offer, including compulsory recurring extras.
- Minimum commitment, setup and equipment charges.
- Any confirmed cost of leaving your current plan or ending the new one early.

Compare the same number of months
Choose one comparison period for both plans. Multiply each monthly price by the months it applies, then add one-off charges once. Divide the total by the comparison months to get an effective monthly cost. That average spreads upfront payments; it is not the amount of every bill.
A 12-month calculation does not erase a 24-month commitment. If your comparison ends before a minimum term does, include any confirmed exit cost relevant to that scenario. If the quote gives more than one later price change, the calculator’s single regular-price field cannot reproduce the full schedule: work through those periods separately.
Try an intro offer against a flat fee
These are made-up amounts for learning how the calculation works, not offers from a Malta provider. Both plans cover 24 months. All fees not shown are zero in this example.
The same 24 months, two ways to pay
- Plan A: €20 × 6 introductory months + €30 × 18 regular months + €30 setup = €690.
- Plan B: €28 × 24 months + €50 equipment = €722.
- Plan A costs €32 less across the full comparison period.
- Effective monthly cost: €28.75 for A and €30.08 for B, rounded to cents.
Give the small print its own line
Ask for the final installation amount for your package and address, plus the expected installation date. MCA guidance explains that both charges and timing can vary. An installation discount on one package does not establish the cost of another.
Check whether the router is bought, rented or subject to a refundable deposit, and what happens when you return it. Put recurring equipment rental in the monthly price and a purchase charge in the one-off equipment field. Keep a refundable deposit separate: it ties up cash but is not automatically a permanent cost.
Use final quoted amounts including applicable tax. Do not add setup or equipment a second time when already included. The tool does not predict later price rises, extra usage or credits, and it does not calculate contractual penalties.

A good price still needs a good fit
Confirm availability at your exact property. MCA advises checking upload and download performance, the typical speed range and any data limit. The largest advertised speed is not a promise that every room will receive it over Wi-Fi.
Choose around your actual use, including simultaneous users, video calls, streaming and uploads. Two quotes with different speeds, allowances or included services are not identical products. The calculator identifies a lower entered cost; it cannot choose the most suitable connection for you.

Check the switch, then save your comparison
Before switching, confirm your old plan’s end date, termination procedure and equipment-return arrangements. Ask for any applicable exit fee in writing. MCA notes that ending a plan during its minimum term can carry a fee; your own contract determines whether it applies.
Assign the old provider’s exit cost to the option that causes it. For example, when A means staying and B means switching, an applicable old-plan exit fee belongs to B. Keep overlap between two subscriptions visible rather than assuming both start and stop on the same day.
Replace the example with your quotes, then copy, print or download the comparison as a PDF with its assumptions. Use the effective monthly figure for long-term budgeting and keep the actual first payment aside for your cash plan.
