Should I enter a one-way or return distance?
Enter the one-way distance. The calculator includes an outward and return drive on every travel day. Add occasional journeys separately to your budget.
Is the fuel use a national average?
No. Enter your own vehicle figure in litres per 100 kilometres. Short trips, traffic, air conditioning and driving conditions can change actual consumption.
Does this compare the full cost of owning a car?
No. It compares running fuel and parking costs. Add your insurance, annual licence, maintenance and other ownership costs separately in the household budget.
